Finding Balance

How Can We Stay Grounded In A Crazy World?

How many times do you find yourself saying “It’s Friday already? Where did the week go?” Or how often do you realize you have missed out on precious moments with family or friends because you put work and schedules first. I know my mind runs a million miles a second on a daily basis, and I find it hard to stay present. My thoughts are constantly in the future thinking about what’s next on my list of things to accomplish. But it’s not healthy for us in the long run. Our time is important and how we care for ourselves makes all the difference. To find balance I look at the three areas of my life that need attention; Mind, Body and Spirit. Then I take action in each area.

Mind: When was the last time you stopped and simply clocked what was happening in the moment, stopped and enjoyed what was happening around you? Pausing and acknowledging little moments in my day is what I have to do to stay grounded. Lately I have made a point to stop and SEE my life. I will literally look at my husband while he is finishing a project and notice the position he is sitting in or look at what his expression is on his face as he focuses on a project. I also look at my dog and observe how his little paws wrap around whatever object he’s chewing on or how his ears perk up and he tilts his head when I say his name. Then I absorb how happy those things make me and feel blessed that I recognize them as they are happening.

Body: Everyday I find ways to stay active, whether it’s walking my dog, hiking, jogging, or taking a yoga class. With my past experience having weight issues and being bullied, it is important for me to feel like I did something good for myself and took care of me. It also helps alleviate my anxiety so I can focus on my day ahead. Just by giving myself a little attention each day, I’m able to be more effective for the people that rely on me. Don’t be afraid to take a little you time to balance out what you need physically. You owe it to yourself.

Spiritual/Emotional: If you’re like me, when I feel overwhelmed, I become an emotional wreck. My poor husband can attest to that! However, I have found that when I allow myself to meditate or stop and take a moment to breathe, it centers me. I recently posted about my favorite place in Los Angeles, the LDS Temple. It is where I go to find my spiritual strength. Whatever religion or belief system you have, take time to be present and let that influence your life each day. With everything on our plate in our home, it makes all the difference in strengthening my relationship with Justin and keeping us working as a team. He is not religious like I am, but because we love and support each other in all things, it still finds a way to bring us closer together.

However, you do it, take the time to at least pause and SEE your life and appreciate everything in it!
